The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Marathon is an innovative, endurance building program for children in kindergarten through 5th grades. Formerly part of Mercedes-Benz Marathon Weekend, the BCBSAL Kids Marathon continues the mission to foster and develop active lifestyle habits in Alabama’s kids.   • Participants run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the program by logging 25.2 miles incrementally in school or at home with parents and complete the final mile of their marathon on our live course to receive their medal.

  • Our 2025 live event will be hosted on our new course at Spain Park High School in Hoover on February 22. Ample parking, shuttles plus a spectator-friendly finish on the track make this year’s event accessible for the entire family.

  • In conjunction with the BCBSAL Kids Marathon, one of the largest and longest running kids' marathons programs in the nation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama will host a charity fundraising 5K to promote active lifestyle habits and celebrate a dedication to community giving.

    The BCBSAL 5K will start in renovated Veteran's Park in Hoover, Alabama and end in a spectator-friendly finish on the stadium track at Spain Park High School.
